Interacting with readers!

I absolutely love interacting with my readers whether they love my books or not. I know. I must be a bit crazy, but they give me the feedback I need to make my writing better. You can't please everyone and not everyone will like what you write. It's a given when you're a writer so plan to be disappointed, angry, sad or whatever when you get a bad review. It will happen at some point.

I went to a readers conference at an RWA luncheon this past weekend and loved it! I got to sit with a couple of readers who had never read any of my books, but we were able to talk writing and reading. I did sell a few copies of my pieces which is always nice. I don't consider it a goal for me to sell anything at a conference. For me, it's being with the readers and other writers and telling people about my books. I gave away a nice readers basket with my entire Wilder Series, some western themed bookends and a western frame in a really cool box. Hopefully, the girl who won it will enjoy the books. That's all I can ask for. I did give out some free books, bookmarks and things so all in all, it was a very productive day.

So, my question to all is this. Do you enjoy conferences where you can interact with your favorite authors? Do you like seeing your favorites as normal people and not someone you can't even talk to?

Some of my favorite conferences are Lori Foster's Get Together and many others. There are tons of new ones cropping up next year that I'll be at so come by and look me up!

And now, a Blog on my Opinion which no one really wants to hear

... But I figured, what the hell, I'll write it anyway.

I don't know if I'm just poking my head out of my writing cave more or if there is an uptick in these type posts, but I'm seeing a lot of posts by my fellow authors decrying some types of stories.

Needless to say, they are not poo-pooing To Kill a Mockingbird. The big one that seems to be getting people up in arms are those faux incest stories with titles such as Daddy's Little Slut.

Now, I've found all the posts well-written and thoughtful, nothing inflammatory - just stating their opinions. Still, I find it ironic (in what I think is the proper dictionary definition) that people who write erotica and M/M romances are talking about how disturbing these books are. I mean, there is a reason that people who write these types of stories take pen names - remember the Judy Mays situation? Judy is a pen name of a high school teacher who writes erotica. This was such a "big deal" that it made a newscast.

Personally, I don't care for M/M. I have no interest in reading it, writing it, or even knowing it exists. More than that, I know some gay men find the M/M genre offensive - no, not all of them, but I do know some who find it ridiculous that women are writing a sanitized homosexual experience for the sexual enjoyment of other women.

So how does it effect you that I and others don't like M/M. It doesn't in any way, shape, or form. Who cares what I think - you certainly shouldn't. You should nod your head and go, "Good for you Dani, but I'm keeping my M/M."

Which is my point. Why does it matter what any of the rest of us are reading, or what each of us finds exciting or titillating, whether it be M/M written by women for women, incest-lite fantasies, paranormal shifter stories where they have sex while one is in their shifted form, or just standard erotic romance. This is the beauty of the written word, that these crazy fantasies can be shared with like minded people and be ignored by anyone who doesn't care.

The Other End of the World

I recently returned from my annual trip to The Florida Keys, where I spent a week engaging in R, R, P and S– rest, research, parasailing and snorkeling. For those contemplating a trip to The Keys, I offer up the following cultural differences between the self-named Conch Republic and everywhere else.

- Many restaurant menus boast “generous portions.” Translation: it is literally impossible to finish a meal, which is served on a small meat platter. Entrees are accompanied by grilled vegetables, fresh rolls and the starch du jour, which can be anything from sweet potato fries to Caribbean rice. After deciding which part of dinner you won’t be able to finish, the server has the nerve to ask, “Did you save room for Key Lime Pie?”

- Don’t be confused when you go to a restaurant and you’re asked if you want a “well drink.” This is not Florida mineral water, but a cocktail, and not the top shelf stuff, either. If you want Johnny Walker, you have to request it. I learned this the hard way when I simply ordered Scotch and the bottle they served it from had a large red “S” on the label.

- All businesses, regardless of size, sell shirts and hats with their name or logo on them, thanks to the folks at Hard Rock CafĂ© who pioneered the concept. Let’s see, which would the folks back home like better – a t-shirt from The Lazy Gecko, Snook’s, Dirty Dick’s, The Square Grouper Lounge or the one with K-Mart Key Largo against a palm tree?

- When you come back you can adopt a new philosophy: “You can’t scare me – I drove through Miami!” People in Ohio complain about Michigan drivers, but they don’t pass the road rage test like the residents of Dade County. You’ll quickly figure out that the posted speed limits are merely suggestions.

- Key Lime products abound, encompassing everything from marmalade to shampoo. Many shops will gladly ship a fresh Key Lime Pie anywhere in the country for $49.95 (not including the cost of the pie).

- No trip to The Keys would be complete without a visit to Key West, where Jimmy Buffett has set himself up as a cottage industry. Next to his Margaritaville Saloon is his Margaritaville Souvenir Store on Duval Street, soon to be renamed Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Boulevard. Inside the shop you’ll be regaled with parrot heads on everything from key chains to thong bikinis. You can also view Jimmy Buffett’s literary output, including several mysteries, his autobiography and a series of children’s books. What a talent! I understand he sings a little, too.

- The current political controversy there involves a proposed resolution that would make it illegal for homeowners to rent their houses or condos to tourists. I’m not sure who’s behind this, but I suspect a strong lobby made up of innkeepers, desk clerks, and travel agents.

If you go, take plenty of sunscreen, enjoy the sunsets, and meet me on the beach so we can split some Conch Fritters and Rum Runners.

Tim Smith is the author of numerous books, ranging from romantic adventure to contemporary erotic romance. More info about his work can be found at his website, http://www.timsmithauthor.com/.

Three wonderful quotes, all from Mark Twain

“Substitute ‘damn’ every time you’re inclined to write ‘very’. Your editor will eliminate them all and the writing will be just as it should be.”

“If you don’t read the newspapers you are uninformed. If you do read the newspapers you are misinformed.”

“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.”

Aren’t these great? The first one is the one that really stuck in my mind and prompted me to go to my files and resurrect the others. I’ve just finished editing my book no. 23, polishing it enough to go to my editor. I have a dreadful habit of repeating words, a few old stand-bys such as ‘but’ and ‘very’. In this book I over-used ‘although’ to a ridiculous extent, but thank heavens one of my beta editors caught it. Can’t show you this one yet, but instead I’ll include a blurb and excerpt from the book Passion in Print released this week.

Two conflicting visions torment Vickie, one promising happiness, the other with Cabot weeping over their lost love. As a mage, Vickie's visions are prescient, but how can they both be true?

Excerpt from when Vicky and Cabot meet in the first chapter, and it gets hotter later on!
"The sudden roar of a powerful motor startled her out of her absorption. Loud enough to command anyone’s attention and perilously near and frightening. Looking up, she froze at the sight of a bright yellow roadster barreling directly toward her. Glancing wildly around and uncertain which way to run, she threw herself to the ground at the side of the road. The car whizzed by her, not quite as close as she’d feared, but still terrifying. At the seemingly last second the careless driver swerved as if to miss her, and squarely hit a running dog. In horror, she stared at the poor animal lying motionless on the ground.

How did the fool dare drive so recklessly? She swallowed her anger, jumped to her feet and hurried toward the still form of the injured animal. Perhaps she could help him in some way, even though the body wasn’t twitching at all.
Before she could reach the dog she heard the screeching squeal of brakes and a strange man swept her into his arms. Stopping her so quickly, she gasped. A handsome specimen of a male, even if he was a brute. Blessed Merlin, how could one man be so gorgeous? He positively exuded male potency and allure. She stared at the blond hair falling over his collar. Longer than was stylish, but making her itch to touch the beautiful locks. And then there were his dazzling dark eyes. Her brothers were counted handsome, but something extraordinary about this man stopped her breath. He was so, so virile. Exuding a formidable masculine power. Trying to twist from his hold, she found him compellingly strong.
She batted at the steel fingers molding her body to his. Like a molten wax seal. Like hot glue.
“You blasted idiot, take your hands off me at once. That poor dog needs help. I’m able to relieve his pain.”
She fought to free herself but the large hands only tightened as the stranger sculpted her to him, holding her against a warm body sending tremors through hers even as she struggled. Dear Merlin, his virility stunned her.
She felt every plane of his impressive frame. His arms enfolded her with remarkable intensity, holding her almost motionless against him.
Her eyes widened with recognition of his obvious masculinity. His male member pressed hot against her stomach. Dear Merlin, all of him was big. The stranger held her plastered to him, the suddenness and size of his erection impressive. He couldn’t walk around like this all the time, could he? She stared at the ground, shocked at her desire to wiggle closer and feel if his erection was as rock hard as it seemed.
She must be losing her mind. He was a complete stranger. How in the name of all the mages could she even think such weird thoughts? And hadn’t she just named him a brute?"

What is My Responsibility Regarding the Net? Part 2

Greetings again!

This is Sharita, Triad author, crazy gal with three names, I've gotten used to all the names now. LOL

Everyone has said I'm brilliant though or very organized with my three names. *grins*

Anyway, I'm back with part 2 of my post about my responsibilities regarding the net.

Such awesome response. I just responded to 4 more comments on the first blog which you can view here.  Now, I'm ready for solutions. How do I think this can be solved? How will we keep pages on FB or Google "safer"

*I know Blogger has a disclaimer up. When you create the blog, it asks you will this be a blog with adult material. Now, with all the silly things that FB has done, it can adapt a way for there to be a disclaimer. When you join, are you 18? Will your page be something that may be offensive to others?
You answer yes, FB puts up the disclaimer before the person even enters the page. That way, the owner of that page isn't targeted or cancelled because someone is purposely reporting pictures or posts for some other reason than offensive. Believe me people it happens. Its happening now on FB.

*FB could be more clear about what they consider "offensive"

I've seen naked women, some say they've seen child porn, people having sex with animals, IDK, some of this I haven't caught. However, pics of men clothed, kissing, or even if its one like the one above, has been flagged on some peoples pages. In this case I bring up Dan Skinner who is a photographer, he creates beautiful homoerotic images.

This is one of his more tame images. 2 men hugging, a nude back. What is the offense here? Well, he's been reported and taken down 2 times now.

Not specifically for this pic but others. I mean, really people? Why can't FB take the time to look at what is truly offensive and make a determination before taking down someones hard work? In the case of Dan, his FB was his business contacts. A lot of his models, companies he's worked with were tied to that page.

UNREAL. All because someone doesn't like homoerotic photos.

*How about an ADULT Facebook?

Now this is my least favorite solution. Why? Because it opens a can of worms. A license to put porn out there or hate pages, something I don't want to see. However, with all the work the higher ups do at FB they could make a more ADULT side of FB for people like authors and photographers like Dan to showcase their work.

Sort of like Literotica where everything goes but its all sexual. Pretty much nothing is off limits there. I've seen and read some interesting stuff. Some I dont even like but I'm not reporting it, I'm not blasting the person that posted it. Skip it and move on. That's the key.

What are you achieving by reporting a page? If its hate speech against minorities or gays or child porn, then yes, you are doing your part but you're reporting a picture because of a woman's nipple showing? Really? When will FB wisen up? It's driving a lot of people away, most running to Google plus since you can pick and choose your circles with one click. Not, picking names out of your 590 friends. That is a pain in the ass, to say the least.

Maybe you guys have better ones? If you do, please leave a comment. Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Do You Read Holiday Stories Before or After the Holidays?

To date, I've only written two holiday stories. All Bets are off is available today and On the Naughty List is a freebee on my website. Halloween has just passed and we're on our way to Thanksgiving. Right after one holiday passes another one is looming close in the distance. So my question is... what holiday stories do you like and when do you read them?

I'm not much of a Holiday writer and I find myself wondering if I'm losing out on these fun stories. In truth I can't quite keep in mind the submission for holidays cut off date. But I'm interested in other authors and their holiday stories.

Where do you find your premises?

Are there Holiday serials?

Do you do a holiday story a year on the dot to lock in secondary characters?

I enjoy bringing back secondary characters. Waiting a year might be pushing it for me if it's a novella.

What are some of your favorite authors? I've read so many holiday stories from my favorite authors. Debbie M, Nora Roberts, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Johanna Lindsey, and so many more. Most of them were print authors before I even learned about the digital industry. I'm looking for some new stories!

Which Holidays are best sellers? I think I've mainly read Christmas and New Year's ones.

You'll remember the beginning of this short. I've trippled the content and it's up now. To find out what happened to Jaynie and Brendon you'll have to buy muahahaha. Here's a sneak peek just for SNSD!

Short Adult Teaseer : Jaynie is called on her taunt "Eat Me" still covered in her Cotton Candy Fairy Costume.

Excerpt 2 Adult

Jaynie both melted and panicked at the same time. Bren’s lips tracing her nipples elicited a moan from her. Backed against the wall with nowhere to go, she leveled her gaze on his intent one. Joking wasn’t his fortitude. Her co-worker pretty much delivered as promised. His tenacity was one reason she despised him so, just not now with his tented cock pressing against her mons and his mouth rendering her speechless.
“I love this new side of you.” His whispered breath caused pebbles to pop over her skin.
“New?”
“Sexy, confident, and until now silent.” He captured her lips in a possessive kiss, thrusting his tongue in and out, tracing her bottom lip and then repeating the siege on her. She threaded her hands in his hair and pressed her body flush against his. Caged by him her fantasy came to life. One of his hands traveled a course down her ass. The candy tickled her skin in comparison to his heated palm navigating her cheeks. He found the scant material protecting her pussy and ripped it in two.
“Oh baby.” He chuckled, trailing fingers up her slit teasing the wet flesh. “Listen to that sound.” He flicked the inside of her cunt with two digits drenched in juices. She’d always been super wet when aroused. Bren played her, evoking sighs from her as if he’d never tire. She failed to notice how thick his guns were before and let out a shocked cry when he hoisted her effortlessly onto his shoulders where his mouth met her sex close up and personal. In a slow long lick she fell apart convulsing over his tongue.
“You’re bad. And we shouldn’t be doing this we work together.” She gripped his hair in an iron hold, apparently her words didn’t faze him. He continued to fuck her pussy with his mouth and nip her clit. High up and against the wall she had no other recourse. And then his fingers speared hard within her, a coil of pleasure building again, blinding in intensity. Bren took satisfaction in her responses. Even though she couldn’t see his expression, she knew by the way his lips worked over her, his relentless finger fuck resulting in a second blinding orgasm.
“Bad sweets? We’ve only just begun.” Bren toggled her clit with his tongue and withdrew, bringing her off his shoulders, her feet touching the ground. Weak kneed, she near fell into a heap, his strong arms kept her steady while she found solid footing.
“I-uh,” She fumbled for words to say. Fuck it. Jaynie popped the button on his cargo pants and eased the zipper down. The gentle hiss of the metal teeth the only sound in the room aside from her rapid breathing. His flesh jerked at her contact, making her insides go all gooey again. Bren’s thick and heavy cock sprung out full mast once freed, impressing the shit out of her. Seconds ticked by. She palmed him and dropped to her knees to pay homage to such a beautiful piece of muscle, giving head one of her favorite pastimes.

I hoped you've enjoyed the little peak!
