Tis the Season

It's that time of year when we all go warm and fuzzy. Aw….Christmas!
So what are you doing for Christmas this year?  Are you shopping until you drop, gathering all the food supplies, planning your big meal. Wondering if Aunt Zoe will like the scarf you knitted after all it took you six months and you were just learning.
Automatically we work hard at making things better not only for ourselves but our loved ones.
We are kinder, more thoughtful, and much more giving.
Christmas is the time to give. I reserve that part of the year for my giving.  I like to play Santa Claus and each year I like to try to really help someone who needs it. Of course the true gift is one you don't brag about to others, it's given without need of thanks or recognition.
Yet there seems to be only two kinds of people at Christmas?  The ones you can't do enough for you, and the kind that sits back in the chair with a frown on their face like the true Grinch?
Despite all the drawbacks people create at Christmas, it's still the most wonderful time of the year. People think more with their hearts at Christmas than any other time. It's a shame it can't last forever, this feeling of giving love, but then we wouldn't treasure it as much, would we?
It's the only season that we can conjure in our minds without hesitation. Christmas is a season when we use our senses, the smells of Christmas like the pine tree we decorate, the pie we bake, the taste of Christmas, the wonderful eggnogs and special treats, the feeling of a warm fire on a cold night, it's a time to enjoy the beauty we create around us. Too bad we don't do this year round, we might all be happier if we did. But then again, too much of a good thing could ruin it too.
Even those that can't give can show their love and affection, and hard work to another.
I want to take the time and wish you the merriest of Christmases from my heart to yours. I want everyone to enjoy this special time that rolls around only once a year. Embrace your senses with it.
What we celebrate is the birth of Christ. What it represents is peace, love, and the true art of giving, just as the wise men brought gifts to Christ, we give to each other.
Sometimes we rationalize that giving is monetary, but giving can be so much more. A good deed for someone can be as simple as food for the hungry, time spent with someone that is lonely, doing for others instead of ourselves.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
