Meet John Antorino Cover Model!

It's always a pleasure to meet friendly, down-to-earth people like those I've met in publishing. That includes cover model and actor John Antorino, whom I've gotten to know during the interview process. I chatted with John last year on another group blog under my Adele Dubois pen name, and recently featured him on my new blog, where I introduced my mainstream romance pen name, Adele Downs.

In case you missed John's interview, I hope you'll stop by and pay him a visit. He's charming and easy going, and readers say he's someone they enjoy meeting.

Here's the link:

BEWARE Using Photos! by Adele Dubois

Over the years, I built a large blog following using picture-rich articles and columns filled with manly hunks. Those days were fun, but times have changed, and I’ve had to stop the practice. Photographers have joined musicians and authors in the fight to protect their copyrighted works. I can’t say I blame them. I know what it’s like to have others steal my books on file-sharing and pirate sites, and profit from my artistic labors.

Out of respect for my sister and fellow artists, I took all of my manly hunk posts down after word got out photographers were unhappy with the unauthorized use of their pictures, even with photo credits like the ones I provided. I have also taken down my Pinterest boards, and some Facebook pictures and You Tube videos, except the ones showcasing my book covers.

After the New Year, I closed my Adele Dubois blog. I’ll continue to post news about 2013 releases, including Smokin' Hot Firemen, on my website at http://www.adeledubois.com/

I started a new blog, Adele Downs, to introduce my mainstream romance pen name. I'm truly a Sweet N' Sexy Diva! Later this year, Adele Downs will make her debut with new publishers and the contemporary romance holiday story A Convertible Too! http://adeledowns.wordpress.com

I'm still finding my way with the new Adele Downs blog, but will use only approved or personal photographs there. Authors who continue to post photos without written permission from photographers are taking a potentially costly financial risk. Takedown notices with the threat of a lawsuit behind them are a nightmare. (Remember when a media giant challenged my use of my real first name?) Posting unauthorized photos simply isn't worth possible repercussions.

I hope you’ll follow my new Adele Downs blog and join me on my mainstream journey. I’d love to hear your suggestions for interesting topics of conversation. What would you like to read about?

Organically Grown Thanksgiving

Hubby and I often cook for our loved ones on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. We prepare entirely organic meals like the Pilgrims did, made with fresh, free-range turkey (no steroids, hormones, preservatives), organically grown vegetables (no pesticides or herbicides), and homemade organic pumpkin pie from scratch (also free from additives, high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, and other chemicals). The food is healthy and delicious and we don't feel guilty afterward.

If you haven't cooked with organically grown foods, I urge you to give them a try. You'll be amazed at how good food tastes without harmful and unnecessary chemicals and additives. Here's a pumpkin pie straight from the Dubois oven. Doesn't it look yummy?

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

SHE'S FURRY YIFFY, New Cover!

I like to experiment with my writing by taking risks. When the opportunity came around to submit to groundbreaking new anthologies from Cleis Press and Delilah Devlin, I jumped at the chance. Happily, my vampire short story The Crystal Altar and shape-shifter short story She's Furry Yiffy, featuring duel heroines, were accepted for the award-winning collection GIRLS WHO BITE and its newly released follow-up SHE-SHIFTERS. The books are offered in both trade paperback and e-book formats.

The Crystal Altar and She's Furry Yiffy are also available separately for .99 at major online book outlets.

I'm pleased to say SHE-SHIFTERS has received fantastic reviews, as did its predecessor GIRLS WHO BITE, which won the Cata Romance Reviewer's Choice BOOK OF THE YEAR Award.

I wanted to give my short stories great covers, and asked cover artist Crystal Posey to create something original for She's Furry Yiffy. Do you like it?

The Fast Driving Fantasy by Adele Dubois

--CONTEST ALERT!-- Giveaway!

The characters in my books drive fast motorcycles and hot cars. In real life, I’m scared of motorcycles, though they fascinate me. I compensate for my fear in fiction, where I can ride on the seat of a bike whenever I want. My REV ME UP and REV ME TWICE military heroes and INTIMATE ART story hero personify the hunk on a Harley ideal. Readers tell me they love these characters and I love them too.

My heroines tend to drive convertibles, like I do in real life. For me, there’s nothing more exhilarating than driving fast with the ragtop down. My DESERT FEVER and DESERT WILD heroines share my love of the open road. Though my car is a Sebring and they drive a Retro Thunderbird, we savor the feel of the wind in our hair, the sun shining on our faces and the thrilling sensation of speed. As long as there’s a stretch of open road, my characters and I will continue to fly.

Do you enjoy the fast driving fantasy? Do you like hot cars or cool motorcycles? Tell us about your ultimate fantasy experience and be automatically entered to win a fun REV ME UP motorcycle key ring, compliments of Adele Dubois. Item mailed USPS inside the continental USA. Winner will not be added to a mailing list and there is no obligation.

A Taste of INTIMATE ART by Adele Dubois

I hope you enjoy reading this sample of my paranormal erotic romance novella INTIMATE ART. The story is a shiny new reissue of a previously published novella that has been revised, expanded with bonus scenes and given a new cover. There's a special place in my heart for INTIMATE ART. I hope the story continues to find new readers.

Summary:

When Jack Harris strides into the Special-T café each morning, wearing jeans hot enough to melt glass, the erotic fuel between him and waitress Legs Anderson almost ignites the room. That’s why Legs’ willingness to keep Jack at bay is Hartsville’s most bemusing mystery.

That and the fact that Jack Harris is the only person in town who doesn’t believe the Anderson house is haunted.

But Legs believes. And as long as her aunt’s ghost haunts the master bedroom of the house she inherits, Jack can’t spend the night. Ada had an ironclad rule she enforces from the grave: No men allowed.

Especially Harris men.

Jack forms a plan involving paint, body stencils, and exotic ingenuity to chase Ada’s ghost from the house. Will erotic art help him claim the woman he loves?

Excerpt:

Legs set her coffee cup down on the desk and moved to the oak trimmed doorway of her aunt’s room. Jack was pushing too hard and she was growing more defensive by the minute. “Men aren’t allowed in her bedroom.”

Jack’s eyes narrowed. “You’re really serious about her haunting the place, aren’t you?” His question was heavy with controlled annoyance.

Legs nodded and folded her arms across her chest. “And she has very strong opinions about what you and I have been doing.”

His smirk told her he couldn’t care less. “Then we don’t need to sneak around anymore, do we? She knows.” He set his coffee cup on the dresser and plunked the bag on the floor. “Just because her husband ran out on her doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a life. I’m not like your miserable drunk of an uncle.”

He shifted his gaze around the room, a scowl forming on his handsome, angular face. Glints of gold in his long, thick hair caught the morning light, and Legs sucked in an admiring breath. His hair was combed back from his face and trailed to the center of his neck like rich butterscotch fudge glazed with real vanilla. It looked so good she almost wanted to take a bite.

She never could stay mad at him long.

The last time they made love she’d run her hands through his gorgeous hair and combed it with her fingertips. She’d reveled in the silky texture while he licked the swells of her breasts and sucked her taut nipples, groaning as his erection strained against her naked thigh. The memory of his hot skin against hers made her tremble inside.

Some of her defenses fell away.

Legs could tell Jack recognized the scent of Ada’s White Diamonds perfume gaining strength in the air by the way he tilted his head as his nostrils flared. His blue eyes flashed defiance. He looked around, shouting at corners. “Do you hear me, Ada? I’m not like he was. It’s time to let her go.”

A cold chill swept through the room. Legs shivered against the draft and ran her hands over her arms. She stared into the sunbeams shining across the floor, trying to focus through the dust motes in the early morning sun. If she looked in just the right way, and at just the right angle, she might see glimmers of her aunt. It had happened before.

Jack turned to face her with a slow smile curving his lips. “I know how to get her out of here, darlin’”. He reached out and pulled her to him. “Tough Love.”

“What?”

The scents of fresh lime soap and musk aftershave filled her senses, dousing the White Diamonds. Strong arms hugged her to his muscled chest. The smell and feel of him drifted over her like a safe, sensuous blanket.

She pressed her cheek against his pectorals and rubbed her face across the nipple that had hardened beneath his black t-shirt. The fullness of her bottom lip clung to the tip and she resisted the primal urge to nip it with her teeth and poke it with her tongue through the fabric.

His voice turned gruff. “We’ll fuck her out of here.”

It's EARTH DAY!

This 1971 booster button comes from my personal collection. It's the first official button offered in the Philadelphia area to raise environmental awareness. I wore it because a cute boy at school gave it to me and kept it because it's pretty. I guess motivation to protect the environment comes in many forms. ")

Happy Earth Day! Best~ Adele

Should Authors Just Shut The Hell Up?

I decided to follow one of my favorite authors on social media to keep up with her news and book releases. We’d met at a Romance Writers of America conference after being introduced by a mutual acquaintance. Though I think I hid it well, I had a fan girl moment when we shook hands. She might never remember meeting me, but I was glad to put a face to the byline of the books I’d enjoyed so much.

To my dismay, the warm and fuzzy feelings I had about this author evaporated after only days of reading her personal pages. It turned out she had a cantankerous personality. Her negative posts on Twitter and Facebook turned me off so much that I stopped following her. My enjoyment of her books soured and the loss still rankles.

The same thing happened after a mid-list author trashed a few celebrity authors by name on her blog following the same RWA conference. She called some of the workshop leaders “stuck up,” “full of themselves” and worse. Her derogatory comments were so outlandish I decided I’d never read one of her books. Ironically, I don’t remember the names of all the celebrities she disparaged, but still remember hers.

Though I have definite opinions on just about everything, I hesitate to voice them on social media with my fans and author friends. I also refuse to get involved in attacks on authors and their work, publishers, and organizations, fueled by someone with an axe to grind who depends on the mob mentality to further her cause. It’s horrifying to watch these scenes play out and I avoid them like the plague.

In social media settings, despite good intentions, the occasional blunder is probably inevitable. But deliberate negative posts can ruin relationships and derail careers. I’ll never understand those who forget that our online personas leave indelible marks behind. But that’s just me. You might feel differently.

What’s your perspective regarding authors online? Should we speak our minds or just shut the hell up?

I Love Books (In Every Format!)

I have been an e-published author for six years—before traditional publishers adopted electronic formats and considered them “real books.” Year by year, I’ve enjoyed watching my readership grow along with the popularity of e-readers. Every time I hear that another million Kindles, Nooks, or iPads have been sold, I cheer. The adage, ‘everything that’s old is new again’ holds true for e-published authors waiting to be discovered.

I also cheered when Books A Million moved into my local mall, renting the space Borders once occupied. To me, browsing though a bookstore and leafing through its titles is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Add a hot cup of coffee to the experience and I’ve described the perfect day. Though I love my e-reader, I love physical books, too. I’ll keep buying paperbacks until the day they disappear from the earth. Honestly, I hope that day never comes. I love having choices. E-book or paperback. I want both.

I’m thrilled that my trade paperback release REV ME from Ellora’s Cave has offered the physical book some readers prefer. REV ME contains my full-length contemporary erotic novel REV ME UP and its stand-alone sequel REV ME TWICE sold until now only in e-book format. Having my books sold in both trade paperback and e-format is a dream come true.

How about you? Do you still enjoy reading physical books, or have you gone strictly electronic? Do you want both?

Would YOU Do Something Naughty?

Have you ever wanted to cut loose and do something completely out of character, just once? Have you wondered what it would be like to live out a fantasy? We work, raise our children, and live our lives as responsible citizens. Yet temptation lures us when we least expect it. We wonder how much we’re willing to risk for the sake of adventure. Do we ignore the call or give-in?

These are the questions that plague story heroine Emily Hopkins in my paranormal erotic romance novella TEMPTED. How she handles the answers are at the heart of the story Simply Romance Reviews calls “Grade A, Outstanding Read!”

On Sale for only $1.99 on Amazon Kindle, B&N Nook, and Smashwords!

TEMPTED by Adele Dubois

Summary:

Is sexual fantasy cheating? If so, Emily’s got a problem. Though she’s never been unfaithful to her husband in reality, she’s found a new hobby with 3D Mental Image Projection. In the privacy of her home, she indulges her secret desires on interactive TV. What else is a lonely woman of a certain age to do?

When Emily wins a weekend getaway to mystical Isle de Paradises, she swears she won’t stray. But temptation lures her at every turn. Desirable men want her and beautiful women pursue her. When Paradises’ youth-restoring powers crumble her resistance, Emily is faced with an irrevocable choice. Her decision will forever alter her life and the fate of her marriage.

Excerpt:

“The champagne is invigorating, no?”

“It’s wonderful. Smooth as satin.” The champagne tasted ice cold on her tongue. Her nostrils flared as she swallowed. Goosebumps formed along the length of her arms. Her breasts began to ache.

“Specialty of the House. From your hosts at The Traveler Channel. It’s called Olympus Elixir.”

“Nectar of the gods. I get it.” Emily smiled. She raised her glass. “Is this liquid science or magic?” She was only half-kidding. The elixir clearly had restorative properties. She hadn’t felt this good in years.

The host smiled down at her. “Science and magic are often seen as one in the same, no?”

Emily nodded. “So true.”

Two glasses of anything was usually her limit, but she could make an exception for this. A surge of energy roared through her bloodstream. The pulse on her neck quickened. The host glanced down at her again through half-open lids. The tip of his tongue touched the center of his delectable bottom lip and disappeared.

Emily swallowed more elixir and tried to keep her own tongue from hanging out like a hound dog. What was she doing flirting with this… baby? She was a married woman with a fine man at home.

I’m only looking, a voice whispered inside her head. No harm done.

Her conscience apparently needed a swift kick in the ass.

She took another taste of champagne. Her nipples positively throbbed. The vee between her legs pulsed in steady rhythms. Her hormones must be running rampant again.

Emily sighed. Why fight it? Why not have teensy bits of fun? She’d worked all her life, raised her children and been a loyal wife for a quarter century. What was the harm of just… looking? Men did that and more every day without a second thought.

She turned to the window where the view was safe and drained the last of her drink. The clouds were bone white against the powder blue sky. There was nothing for her to do except relax and enjoy the scenery. No laundry. No food shopping. No errands to run. Just this delightful, indulgent flight and whatever awaited on Isle de Paradises.

Dubois Thanksgiving Wishes

Thanksgiving is celebrated in a big way at the Dubois house. Hubby and I cook a traditional turkey dinner together for our family and friends with all the trimmings, including a huge plate of ravioli like my grandmother used to make. We bake our own pumpkin and blueberry pies. (Pumpkin pictured below, fresh from the Dubois oven.) Dress is casual, watching football is allowed, and snoozing on the sofa after the meal is as much a tradition as the bird.

Ours is a multi-cultural, multi-racial group. We are Caucasian, African American, and Asian. Some of us were born in our small Pennsylvania town. Others come from the mid-west or nearby cities. Our ages range from young to very old. We are the true melting pot of America. On Thanksgiving Day, we celebrate the unwavering love we have for our country and one another.

I wish you all a peaceful, bountiful Thanksgiving.

Best~Adele

THE CRYSTAL ALTAR by Adele Dubois

An original steamy short.
New Release! GIRLS WHO BITE lesbian vampire erotica anthology from Cleis Press. Edited by Delilah Devlin.

 ©Adele Dubois 2011

Excerpt:

“Only your cousin would celebrate her birthday in a creepy place like this cave.” Rosa scrunched up her nose.

Morgan tried not to smile, since Rosa was being serious. If she only knew how cute she looked when she made that face, she might never do it again.

Rosa hated the dark and anything remotely otherworldly. She refused to watch fantasy or horror movies and detested Halloween. Rosa liked musicals, TV cooking shows, and Christmas.

She’d come to Angela’s birthday party strictly under protest. Morgan had mollified her with a picnic she had prepared. Rosa worked as the chef at the restaurant Morgan managed and rarely got a break from food preparation.

It seemed the novelty had worn off.

“The caves are historic.” Morgan tried reasoning. “Natural wonders. People travel from all over the world to visit and they’re right in our backyard. We’ll see formations like calcite crystal walls, flowstones, and dripstones millennia old.”

Rosa stopped folding the blanket and set her mouth in a grim line. Her nostrils flared. “I’d rather wait in the car. You go. She’s your cousin. And a freak, if you ask me.”

Morgan couldn’t argue there. Her cousin Angela had turned a whole new kind of weird since her trip to Europe. She’d left eastern Pennsylvania a skinny geek in glasses that nobody wanted to hang with. She’d returned a curvy Goth with facial piercings, night vision, and an entourage of beautiful women who’d moved into the Lancaster home she shared with her father.

Angela had explained that laser eye surgery in Eastern Europe was light years ahead of procedures in the United States. Her new look was the work of some chick she’d met on the road named Lillith. The transformation, she claimed, had made her popular. Angela seemed perfectly happy.

Which was more than Morgan could say at the moment.

“I know she’s odd, but she’s family and it’s her birthday. What else could I do?” Morgan took the blanket from Rosa’s hands and laid it on the grass beneath the cover of an old weeping willow. Rosa followed inside the natural umbrella of leaves and slender branches.

“Let’s not argue, okay?” Morgan pleaded. “We have at least an hour before the others arrive. We haven’t been alone all day.” She hoped her voice sounded husky and sexy and not as desperate as she felt.

Secretly, she worried they were headed for bed death. Rosa had become more distant and less interested in sex than she had during their first six months together. Morgan had plenty of platonic friendships and the last thing she wanted was for Rosa to drift into that category. She loved her and wanted her as much now as she had in the beginning.

Morgan lay down on her back and reached up from the blanket for Rosa. “Come here.”

SHOULD STRAIGHTS WRITE GAY? by Adele Dubois

--CONTEST ALERT!--

As a straight, long-time married woman, I confess I’ve never had a yen to read male/male erotic romances, nor the inclination to write them. Maybe that’s because I grew up around the theatre—in a world that included my parents’ gay male friends and protégés. In my twenties, I lived in a gay community in the city, and later owned a business with a large gay clientele. Our circle was passionate about the theatre, books and art and we talked endlessly about those interests. As adults, we chatted and joked about sex too, but rarely exchanged the intimate details of our personal lives. I dated my men and they dated theirs, and that was that.

To this day, I cannot form gay male characters in my head without conjuring real images of old friends and acquaintances. Creating male/male erotic stories would be like trying to imagine my brothers naked. No can do.

When I accepted the challenge to write lesbian vampire erotic fiction for the upcoming GIRLS WHO BITE anthology, a different set of issues emerged. What did I know about  the lesbian lifestyle? Only what I’d read or imagined. While I’ve had a great deal of contact with gay men, I’ve had little contact with gay women. What qualified me to write a lesbian tale? Could I create a convincing story? Should straights write gay?

As I plotted “The Crystal Altar” I discovered the answers. Apart from the sex scene choreography, story construction remained the same. In fiction, richly detailed characters convey emotions shared by all people. Everyone on earth has the need for connection. It’s the universal experience that binds us.

Once I was no longer intimidated by the same sex challenge, the writing flowed. “The Crystal Altar” short story, and my protagonists Morgan and Rosa, sprang to life. Their labels fell away. My heroines became two people with the same problems everyone in love faces. They also just happen to encounter vampires while resolving their relationship issues. Their fight for survival ultimately delivers their Happily Ever After.

Writing “The Crystal Altar” was, by far, the most fun I’ve had writing erotic romance. Who knew? I really hope that men and women, gay and straight, will be open to reading the GIRLS WHO BITE anthology, edited by Delilah Devlin for Cleis Press. The book releases September 13, 2011. This author sure had a blast with her story. Next challenge, lesbian shapeshifters!

Okay, so here's my question--primarily for straight women, but I'd like to hear from everyone. Will girl on girl erotic romance find a supportive mainstream audience like the male/male market has? Publishers are watching the trends and waiting for reader response. What do you say? Be honest. There is no right or wrong answer.

The person who provides the answer that stikes my fancy will win a FREE download of my contemporary erotic romance DESERT FEVER. An excerpt can be found at www.adeledubois.com/

Thanks for reading and playing!
Best--Adele Dubois

They're HOT and ON SALE!

Are you more likely to buy a book by an author you've been curious about if her book is on sale? I went on a book buying binge at Kindle recently to try authors whose stories I'd never read before. The shopping spree was a lot like eating potato chips. I couldn't stop after one or two or a handful. But the experience was fun, inexpensive, and offered enough entertainment to satisfy me until the next irresistible urge to shop.

Imagine how happy I was when I discovered some of my books were on sale, too!

I’m pleased to announce that Amazon Kindle is offering my best-selling and award-winning erotic romance titles REV ME UP, DESERT WILD, and INTIMATE ART at amazing prices like $1.19! I hope you’ll check them out!

Inspired by Favorite Places

I like to write in silence. While some authors escape to coffee shops, and others play music while they create, I prefer absolute quiet. My best writing happens when I’m at my desk, inside my home office, with the door closed. I don’t like distractions.

Although I don’t often write outside, I love to read outdoors, and find inspiration for my stories in beautiful settings. When I need to revive my artistic spirit, I visit my favorite places. The first is my own backyard. The second is near the water in my preferred vacation spot. Surrounded by these lovely views, my creative well is refilled.

This is the place I enjoy most. Home. I’ve written most of my books here.

Here’s my favorite vacation spot. I wrote two full-length novels here.

Do you have a favorite place that restores your creative soul? Where do you like to read or write?

IS EROTIC ROMANCE DEAD?

Adele Dubois Wants To Know!

-- Contest Alert! --

An editor from a popular electronic publisher and I had a discussion about the current state of the erotic romance market. I wondered if a traditional erotic story about one man and one woman falling in love and having amazing sex contained enough thrills for readers anymore. I questioned whether it’s necessary for men and women to tie each other up, bring out the clips and battery-operated toys, or have group sex with partners of both genders while their relationship unfolded in order to meet market demand.

Has sex without bells and whistles, cartwheels and back flips become an obstacle to reading pleasure?

Many of my author friends, who in real life are as conservative as I am, have turned to what we call “writing to market” to increase their readership. They’re writing about kink of all kinds because it seems that “plain vanilla” isn’t enough to titillate fans anymore. I’ve upped the ante in my books, too, by including scenes with multiple partners and F/F sex to mix things up a bit. These stories were fun to write and I hoped readers would enjoy them. In my heart of hearts, though, I still want to write those smokin’ hot romances about one man and one woman having incredible, un-kinky sex while falling deeply in love and planning a happily-ever-after future together.

Is erotic romance, in its early form, dead?

According to the editor to whom I posed this question, the answer is a resounding no. She said that some of the hottest, most memorable stories she’d edited or read for pleasure were love stories about one man and one woman. In her view, “plain vanilla” can still slack the thirst of the most demanding reader. She encouraged me to keep writing traditional erotic romances, submit them, and not worry about being “conservative”.

Still, I’m skeptical.

So, savvy readers, tell us all. Which style floats your boat? Traditional flavor or kinky? Do you want your heroines tied up and blindfolded, or in charge? Like your heroes abrasive or romantic? Tell us what you want in an erotic story, and why. We want DETAILS. Those who reply with the most informative answers will automatically be entered to win a copy of my best-selling erotic e-book novel REV ME UP. If enough people provide thought-provoking answers, I’ll give away two books.

REV ME UP and its stand-alone sequel REV ME TWICE will be offered in trade paperback this fall under the title REV ME.

Thanks for playing!  Best--Adele
