Sweet N Sexy Soulful Quotes

I don't know where you live, but around here, March has certainly come in like a lion. I'm crossing my fingers that it goes out like a lamb as the ol' saying professes.

With spring just around the corner, that means warmer weather, blessed sunshine, fragrant flowers, buzzing bees, and more new releases to read (while we soak up the sun.) Nothing says "Hot damn! Spring is here" like a hunky Alpha hero and his warm reminiscent touch on your soon-to-be-sun-kissed skin as his heatedly whispered words caress your soul. And boy, do I have some hot snippets for you!

The books I feature are from authors who were not afraid to be soulful, sappy, and/or suggestive when it came to their heroes. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and fire up those eReaders so you can add these new releases to your TBR collection.

Happy reading!

“I’ll not stay here a moment longer. I will not stay if I am not with child.”

Eaden twitched his gaze to the bed and back at her. “Would ye care to increase the odds?”
Cathy MacRae, The Highlander's Accidental Bride

“Is making love something you do not wish to do?” Martin said. “As I recall, you seemed to enjoy it as much as I did.” Then, more tenderly: “Besides, I have missed you, Kitten.”

“No…I cannot. I am not your…your…” She could not bring herself to say the word. Their one night together had been a wonderful, amazing, and yes, passionate experience, but it could never happen again. She had escaped for one dreadful night into a dream. Into his arms. As much as she wanted his arms around her again, wanted to lie with him, she could not allow it. This was not who she was. Not who she was raised to be.

Placing his hands on her waist, he pulled her against him. The heat from his broad chest overwhelmed her as she stared into indigo eyes now stormy with desire. “You opened a door, Kitten, I’m unwilling to close.”
Regan Walker, Against The Wind

Giving in to temptation, he cradled that cool cheek in his hand, his thumb tracing the taut line of her jaw. “I knew you the minute I saw you. I knew you and you knew me, whether we like it or not.”

“I don’t want—”

“A relationship? A husband? Ties that bind?” Kevin supplied helpfully.

“Yes.” Her grunt of frustration sounded so much like his own he had to smile. Shelli Ann scowled in return. “No. To all of the above,” she clarified.

“Me either. Particularly not the husband, but for the sake of clarity I don’t want a wife, either.”

“Then what’s the point?”

He had to chuckle as he stared into her earnest eyes. He couldn’t resist. Heedless of the risk, he fell into those eyes, absolutely confident she’d never let him drown there. Even if he wanted to. Framing her face with his hands, he held her captive just long enough to brush her lips with his.

“That,” he whispered as he pulled away. Rolling to his cold-numbed feet, he offered his hand palm up. Hers for the taking. “That’s the point, Gidget."

“Gidget?”

He smiled when her fingertips grazed the center of his palm. Closing his hand, he held fast. “Chihuahua on the Taco Bell commercials.”

Her eyebrows rose as she did. “How do you know that?”

“I’m an insomniac with cable and high speed internet. I don’t know why I know half the crap I know.”

Sweet N Sexy Soulful Quotes

February is the month of love and romance, though I can't admit to annually celebrating Valentine's Day with my husband.  With romance novels, who needs Cupid to come out of hiding on the 14th when every day of the year is a day to celebrate, indulge and enjoy the pleasures of love and romance. And what better way to experience the wonders of true love and happily ever after than to be whisked away in time and swathed in the strong arms of a sword-wielding Alpha male warrior or Highlander.

The books I feature are from authors who were not afraid to be soulful, sappy, and/or suggestive when it came to their heroes. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and fire up those eReaders so you can add these new releases to your TBR collection. You'll be glad you did.

Happy reading!

Liadain whipped the delicate gown behind her back as her husband stood as still as a statue. She tried to mask her guilty look by offering him a demure smile and did not fool the man for a moment.

“I repeat, what the hell was that?”

She turned away, hastily stuffing the transparent material back into her bag. “It was naught.”

A firm hand touched her arm. “Nay, it was definitely something.” He tugged her away from the sack and then proceeded to pull out the dreaded gown. He held up the wicked cloth, studied it intently, and then turned and held up the delicate material to her frame. His eyes darkened and Liadain could swear that he actually growled.

She pulled the devilish garment out of MacGregor’s hands before the situation had a chance to become worse—not that she thought it could. But when a small voice spoke, she was aware that she should not assume anything.

John’s shuffling feet entered into the chamber. “Do ye come or nae, sir?”

Her husband’s eyes twinkled with liveliness. “Nae yet.”
Victoria Roberts, X Marks the Scot

“We live in a time of uncertainty and walk a fine line between danger and desire. Nothing worth having is without risk.” He hovered over her, his arms supporting the bulk of his weight on either side. His chest muscles bunched, his square jaw tightened, and his neck veins bulged from the strain. The soft glow of moonlight highlighted handsome, rugged features and she caught the tantalizing scent of musk and man.

Sweet N Sexy Soulful Quotes

The holidays have flown by and now we're left to endure the long, cold, dreary days of winter. While I absolutely dread this time of year, I love to snuggle up under a warm, fuzzy blanket, drink a heavenly cup of coffee and whipped cream, and rest by my fireplace with a great romance book. Lucky for you, I have a few hot reads to share with you that are sure to spice up your dismal winter as well.

The books I feature are from authors who were not afraid to be soulful, sappy, and/or suggestive when it came to their heroes. Did Santa bring that ereader you wished for? Then let's put it to good use and add these new releases to your collection.

Happy reading!

Leaning back in her chair, she ignored the twinge in her belly and eyed him speculatively. “Next week, huh? Seems like you run a little late on everything.”

“How do you mean?”

“A week, Spence? I’ve been back in town for six months, and you wait until you only have a week left?” She raised an eyebrow. “On purpose? A way to make sure things don’t get too hot and heavy?”

His bark of laughter made her feel only marginally better. The tightness in her chest eased when he shook his head, a rueful smile crinkling his eyes. “I’m not that bright.”

“You’re bright enough to be admitted to medical school.” She tapped the rim of her empty glass then gathered a bit of the salt on the pad of her finger. “I bet you know how to handle women too,” she said, carrying the coarse grains to her lips.

She sucked the salt from her finger and his pupils dilated, ebony pools widening until they swallowed the bittersweet brown. Beth let her eyes close as she drew on the digit, reliving the moment when his salty musk filled her mouth. A low moan curled its way through the desire fogging her brain. She opened her eyes but had a hard time determining if the sound came from him or her.

“You think I would have taken those six months if I knew?” he asked.

She plucked the finger from her mouth. A wicked smile curved her lips when the memory of a familiar popping sound registered in his glazed eyes. “Knew what?”

“I never thought you’d want me too. Not until the day of my shoot. Not until I caught you peeking.”

“So you tricked me into sneaking another peek?”

“I had to be sure. I needed to know this wasn’t wishful thinking on my part.”

He reached for her hand and pulled it to his mouth. Her fingers curved to the contour of his cheek and stubbly whiskers scraped her palm. His lips caressed the pulse strumming in her wrist. He pressed a tender kiss to the center of her palm, his eyes locked on her the entire time.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered.

“Sorry?”

“Sorry for the oblivion. Sorry I wasted our time. I won’t waste any more, I promise.”

“For at least the next few days,” she amended.

“Six,” he corrected with a wince. Clasping her hand, he held it firmly between his. “My life is not going to be my own for the next four to six years.”

“At a minimum,” she added with a nod.

“But if you want me, the next six days are yours. All yours.”
Maggie Wells, Jumping Mr. January

“Holy crap.” Her cheeks flamed when she realized she’d spoken the words aloud, but the grin he rewarded her with made it so very much worth it. With their fingers intertwined she finally found the nerve to ask him the question that had been weighing on her mind since his confession. “So how does a guy like you end up on an online dating site?”

He nodded, as though he was expecting the question. “I could ask you the same thing, Elena.” Just the way he said her name brought on the tingles. “Do you have any idea how beautiful you are?”

Again. He knocked the breath out of her lungs again. The first time her butt might have been partially to blame, but this time his words had the same effect. Hell, nearly every word out of this man’s mouth was like poetry to her ever-increasing libido.

God bless him, he even knew when to keep talking, because right now she was having a hard enough time breathing let alone forming a coherent sentence. “I’m pushing towards thirty-five. I have two younger sisters who are married with children. I’m just…tired of dating the wrong women. It’s so hard to find someone you connect with on more than one level. I thought maybe this site would do the dirty work for me.”

“God,” she whispered. “I’m sorry. I just…I’m having a really amazing fantasy in my head right now. Do you think, uh…Could you say the whole ‘beautiful’ thing again?”

He laughed harder than she’d heard him laugh. He could laugh all night long and she’d never grow tired of it. When he calmed down, he raised a hand to cup her cheek and repeated the magic word in a deep, husky timbre. “Elena, you are a stunningly beautiful woman.”
Evelyn Jules, Cheapskates In Love

When they got back on the boat and pulled away from the dock, Whitney said, "That was really nice."
"St. John is beautiful," Chris replied.

"Not that. I mean you. You didn't have to go to his house and unload all
that."

Chris shrugged, concentrating on backing out of the dock and turning the heavy boat around.

"And you weren't coming here anyway," Whitney continued.

Chris met her eyes, but didn't say anything.

"I'll bet you're going back another day to help him put in those windows and fix his roof," she said.

Chris kept one hand on the wheel, but reached out with the other arm and pulled Whitney tight against him. His arm wrapped all the way around her, practically crushing her against his chest. "If I kiss you, will you stop talking?" he asked.

"Maybe," she said, unbalanced but strangely steady. "I can't tell you for sure."

"Because I need to test the theory?"

"No," she whispered, "because I can't think when you're touching me."

"Good," he said, lowering his head to hers.

The thrum of the boat's engine under her feet was no match for the buzz electrifying her body where it met his. Chris' scent, sun-warmed skin, was the first sensation. Fingers brushed her cheeks, stroking outward and
tangling in her hair until his hands held her head firmly. Not that she would have moved. His lips found hers at the very moment she was sure she could not wait another second. Gentle at first, then more insistent, his mouth covered hers. Leaning into him and slipping her hands under the back of his T-shirt, she surrendered to the kiss like a diver leaping from the beam into warm inviting water. Eyes closed, Whitney focused on every square inch of connection between them. Lips, hands, bodies. A loud boat horn shattered the kiss like glass.
Amie Denman, Will Work For Love

Sam stood and came around to her. Pulling her into his arms, he held her close with one hand firmly on her head as the other stroked up and down her back. Her story was familiar, and yet he couldn’t remember why.

“Shhh. Tenlee dear, you can’t take blame for having any part in this. None of this was your fault.” When he felt her stiffen and start to pull back he held her in place. “Tenlee, if you had worked Christmas morning, you still wouldn’t have been there to run the errand for her. She was meant to go to the store that morning. Don’t you see?”

He pulled back to search her eyes. “There was nothing you could have done to change that. And as for you working that morning, I think you were supposed to switch shifts. That way, you wouldn’t have to be the one to help her. God spared you that extra bit of sorrow, because I believe that if you had been the one there and she still had passed away, your grief and guilt would be even worse than it is now. It was her time. I’m sorry.”

He pulled slightly away, but didn’t let her go. “It’s okay to grieve for her, to miss her, to even wish you had her back.”

His hand came up to grip her chin gently and he made her look him in the eye. “But don’t you, for one second, believe you had anything to do with it. Do you

hear me? I won’t let you go on any longer carrying this burden that isn’t yours. Tonight, here and now, it lies in a jail cell with its rightful owner.”

Tenlee stared up at him with such trust it stole his breath. She was so beautiful, and it crushed him to see her in pain. He hadn’t known her for very long, but he’d grown to care about her in the past few weeks.

“Okay?”

Tenlee took a deep breath and let it out. “I’ll try. It’s all I can promise.”

“Then, I’ll take it.”

They stood there for a few moments looking into each other’s eyes. An ever growing need to kiss her enveloped him. He lowered his head just an inch or two and waited, looking at her, hoping she would agree. When he saw Tenlee lick her lips, desire filled him, and when she ever so softly nodded her head yes, that need ran over the edges of his self-control. He lowered his head and feathered his lips gently over hers, but when their lips touched and he felt the connection between them grow, he knew he was lost forever.

Sweet N Sexy Soulful Quotes

Just a few days from Christmas (can you believe it) and soon we'll be celebrating another new year. But before we close out the current 2012, let's not forget the hot December releases that just came our way and are ready for purchase on those new ereaders you've been asking Santa for.

The books I feature are from authors who were not afraid to be soulful, sappy, and/or suggestive when it came to their heroes. So, grab a seat, and pick up a pen and paper (or fire up your eReaders) so you can add these to your TBR collection.

Happy reading!

In one swift shove, he propelled his heavy body off hers and faced the fire, his breathing weighty and intense. Reaching between his legs, he shifted his burdensome erection and groaned. His chin fell to his chest and a long sigh heaved from his lungs. “Odin’s blood, you are but wicked temptation for the weak.”

Æsa sat up, feeling the strain of her sore muscles in the process. She ignored the sting of her aching back and touched his cheek, stroking his hair away from his tormented face. “Wicked enough to be punished?”

Gustaf stared at her, his eyes boring into hers. “Punished?”

She drew her finger over the hard angle of his jaw, down his neck and back up into the thick of his hair. “Call it what you will, but there is a fine line between punishment and pleasure. I have known great pleasure under the tenderness of your touch, but I long for more. I yearn to feel the wrath of the unchained warrior. To know what the abandonment of your restraint feels like between my thighs.”

She saw the column of his throat bob as he swallowed. Her words had struck him as hard as any blow to the gut, but she knew they likely caressed him like a warm tongue up his throbbing length.

“Perhaps having to abstain from your urges will force the wild animal from its barred enclosure when the time comes.”

“Perhaps,” he repeated, his voice cracking under duress.

She smiled and threaded her hands through his hair, wrenching his face closer to hers. “I can only hope.” With lust still blazing in his eyes, she took his lips and plundered his mouth with her tongue. As fiercely as she began the kiss, she broke away, capturing his wanton stare. “Sooner, rather than later.”
~ Renee Vincent, The Temperate Warrior

Kathleen ate the last bite of her sandwich and wadded up the plastic wrap. Grant took the trash from her and their fingers touched. They gazed at each other, not blinking, not breathing. In those brief seconds, his face hovered closer, and she knew he was going to kiss her. It wasn’t meant to happen, but it did.

Already dizzy from the wine, Kathleen’s senses spun. Grant tasted of peanut butter and Sauvignon Blanc. He smelled like the outdoors and male muskiness. His lips were warm, the finger that caressed her cheek, gentle and soft.

“I want to make love to you,” he said, watching her over the rims of his glasses.

She drew back, her eyes wide with surprise. “Love or sex?” Her voice cracked a little.

He cupped her cheek, his fingers cool on her flushed skin. “Love,” he said firmly. “I don’t have sex with women I don’t care about.”

Kathleen searched his face and saw sincerity in his eyes. She saw desire there too. “I don’t know.”

He removed his hand and sat back. “I forgot. You’re the good, small town girl.”

There was a moment of silence while she thought about it. Other girls did it. This was the sixties, for crying out loud! She had let the whole sexual revolution pass her by. She’d never even burned a bra.

“No commitment, if that’s what’s worrying you,” Grant said, reaching for her and wrapping her in his arms. She laid her cheek against his chest. He was warm. His heart beat strong and sure. “Let’s do it, Kate. Because we can. Because we’re young and healthy and free.”
~ Jan Scarbrough, A Groovy Christmas

“Look, I know I am being a total toad. I know you don’t deserve it. It’s just that you treat me the way I expect to be treated for the rest of my life, and it makes me mad.”

Allie couldn’t believe her ears. “How can you say that? I have been nothing but accommodating to you since you arrived. Until recently I have kept my mouth shut when you have been rude instead of giving you tit-for-tat like I should have and wanted to more than you can imagine. What do you want from me?”

George turned and crossed the room to sit down on the couch. He waited, one brow lifted, until Allie got the message and joined him. “I want you treating me like you would anyone else, and until today, you haven’t.

“Don’t you think I know I am lucky to be alive? Don’t you think I realize how many of my friends didn’t make it back, or are so messed up that they will never get their lives back?”

Allie felt lost, embarrassed, humbled. How had she read the situation so wrong? “So you like me mad at you when you act like a jerk?”

George smiled, really smiled, and Allie felt her heart resume its pounding beat. She shook her head, relieved once again that George couldn’t see her reaction. The man was eye candy, and she had suddenly developed a sweet tooth.

Sweet N Sexy Soulful Quotes

Here we are just one day away from Thanksgiving and I know I have a lot to be thankful for. How about you?

Amid the hustle and bustle of the approaching holidays, I've heard many people plan to utilize their long weekend vacation by catching up on some reading, myself included. So, what better way to prepare for a relaxing stint of romance reading than to get a taste of some hot new releases perfect for the holiday season.

The books I feature are from authors who were not afraid to be soulful, sappy, and/or suggestive when it came to their heroes. So, grab a seat, and pick up a pen and paper (or fire up your eReaders) so you can add these to your TBR collection.

(And just so you know, you can purchase each book separately - as I've provided the Kindle link next to the author's name - or as a set.)

Happy reading!

“You’re not a loser.”

“Of course you don’t think I am.” Dawn’s accusing voice rose. “You’ve always been there for me, haven’t you, Clint? My old boyfriend. It’s your claim to fame here in Legend. Everyone knows you as Dawn Smith’s high school steady.”

He came to his feet. “I think it’s time for me to go.”

“Okay. Run away, everyone else does. Leave me. I don’t care. I don’t need you. I don’t need anybody!”

She was hysterical. On the verge of losing it. Dawn gulped. Her head swam with fear. What was happening to her?

He towered above her. Dawn was forced to look up at him. Clint stared down at her, condemning, questioning. “What’s wrong with you? Are you on drugs or something?”

“As hard as it may be for you to believe,” she said raising her chin in what was left of her dignity, “I never do those things. Not every actress in Hollywood is a party girl.”

Her head spinning, Dawn searched his eyes. She blinked away the lump growing in her throat. “Oh, my God, Clint,” she whispered. “I didn’t mean all those things I said.”

He gave her a lopsided smile. “I know you didn’t.”

“I’m not totally selfish.” She said aloud more to make herself believe it.

He lifted a finger and smoothed back a wisp of hair. His touch was a shock. It sucked the breath from her. Dawn reached up and caught his hand, drawing it down to her cheek. She shut her eyes, resting against the palm of his hand, against the strong feel of his fingers.

A small part of her heart wanted Clint and all he represented. Home, family, a strong man to care about, to love. She couldn’t give Clint what he ought to have. Getting involved again wasn’t fair to him, but tonight she needed him more than ever.

“I want you to take me to bed,” she said in a voice so low even she had trouble hearing it. “I want you to make love to me.”
~ Jan Scarbrough, Santa's Kiss

Swallowing hard over a growing lump in throat, she stepped closer to Matt. Gathering up the clothes he held out to her, she clutched them to her chest but never let her stare waver from his. She peered deeper.

“I know I’ve said this once, but I’m going to say it again. I’m so sorry, Matt,” she whispered. “For everything.”

Something broke in his expression, and she waited while his gaze played over her face, searching, probing. It landed on her lips, and then lifted to catch her stare again.

An overwhelming desire to rush forward, lift her face to his and kiss him came over her. She tamped it back. No, she could not do that. He was angry with her. Hated her. She was stuck with him here and who knew what his reaction might…

He reached out and skimmed his fingertips along her cheek and jawline, and a fissure of pleasure sped through her, confusing her even more.

“Matt…” she squeaked out.

In one swift moment, he grasped the clothing from her hands, tossed them away, and hauled her up against him. His mouth came down hard on hers and she gasped at the sensation. Firm and determined, he kissed her thoroughly, his hands at her back holding her against his chest, his lips playing over hers, his tongue searching for more.

The unleashed passion boiling up in her was like an answer to a long-awaited prayer. An urgent yearning suppressed and set free. Of a question long hanging in the air responded to with loving fervor. Heat welled up inside her until she thought her chest would burst.

She was kissing Matt. Not her high school boyfriend, but Matt, the man. The one she’d left behind. And unless she was mistaken, he was hungry for more.

But… but what could this lead to? Where could it go?

Those thoughts dissipated as his mouth left her lips and trailed lazily down her neck in a sensual rhythm. A deep sigh escaped his lips. She melted against him.

“Let’s get you out of these wet clothes.” His voice was deep and raspy against the crook of her neck and shoulder.

Chelly pulled back and searched his face. She wondered if he could read her question. Should they?

With a forefinger on her lips, he shook his head. “Don’t… talk. Let’s…”
~ Maddie James, Home For The Holidays

He silenced her with a kiss as sweet as soft red wine, as spicy as sex. Rebecca set her wine glass shakily onto the buffet, put her arms around David’s neck, and pulled him closer. He set his glass down too, almost missing the horizontal surface in his haste to have Rebecca in his arms. It felt so right. It felt like home, at last, after the loneliness and denial both of them had been through.

David came up for air a few minutes later. “So. Rebecca. It feels like we’re onto something here. Like maybe we’re on the same side of the counsel table for once.”

She smiled up at him. “There’s just nothing as romantic as a courtroom metaphor.” Sighing, she ran her hands through his hair. “But I think you’re right. I think we started something up there on the mountain that is worth some…research.” She tipped her head to one side. “Would you like me to file a brief?”

“Hm. I don’t think briefs will be required.” He teased her ear lobe with his tongue.

Catching her breath—and then catching his meaning—she laughed softly and shook her head. “No. You’re right about that. Do you require any type of pleading?”

“Pleading isn’t necessary, either.” David ran his hands down her back and pulled her closer. She laughed out loud. “Okay, Your Honor. What’s the verdict then?”
Magdalena Scott, Christmas Collision

Would you make love to me?”

Jack approached her slowly, as he did many things these days, but this time it wasn’t because of pain. The four days of all-out rest, interspersed with much needed exercise, had restored him as nothing else had and he felt darned good.

His heart fluttered with hope. He hated waking up every morning wondering who he was. Hated it even more since learning he could be a part of a family that he could have deserted. And since meeting Christina, watching her go through the motions of life, and liking the quiet dignity she wore like a cape, he wanted the issue resolved for her as well. Her life must have been hell.

“Have you decided I’m him, then?”

Christina shook her head. “No. I’ve decided you’re not.”

He didn’t know what to say about her decision. If she’d decided that he wasn’t the husband she’d loved, what was she doing teasing him like this? He took her hands and placed them in his own. She smiled up at him, and his already hard dick jerked in reaction. As turned on as he was, he couldn’t let her do something she might later regret.

“What’s this about?”

She studied his face, then settled her gaze on his eyes. “I know you aren’t Johnny. And though I’m not going to explain myself, in many ways, that’s a relief. He’s gone forever. But I’m not. I want to be held and touched. I want to feel something inside a body that has been an empty shell for way too long. And I’m asking you—Jack—to be the man that fills that shell. Is that ridiculous? Is it asking too much?”

Jack took a deep breath, then exhaled. Having such a lovely woman want him, even need him, sexually, was a turn-on any day of the week. But he barely knew himself and her not at all, and there were bound to be repercussions given her situation, and for all he knew, his.

“There are a lot of things I don’t remember right now, but I’m a man, with a beautiful woman, and giving you what you want would be very easy to do. Except I don’t want you to think it’s a mistake later. If I really do prove to be someone else, how will you feel? If we eventually find out I really am Johnny, how will I feel when I realize my beautiful wife wanted to make love to a man she doesn’t believe is me?”

Christina lowered her arms and took a step back. “I don’t know how either of us will feel. But I know Johnny is dead."

“Then how do you explain my looking just like him?”

Christina shook her head. “I can’t.”

She approached him again. “Jack, this is awkward for me, but I am attracted to you. Not like you were my husband, but to you. I’d like to make love with you. No strings attached.”

The humming in his body forced him to reach out and take her, pulling her to him. He closed his eyes as need and want made his body react. “Are you sure?”

Christina looked up at him, bit her lip, then nodded. “I need to do this.” Her cheeks flushed scarlet. “I have lubrication.”

Jack felt the chuckle in his chest, but she looked so serious he couldn’t laugh. “I assure you, we won’t need it.”

Sweet N Sexy Soulful Quotes

I'm so surprised at how quickly this year is flying by, aren't you? I feel like I've blinked and suddenly we're in October. I'm afraid if I blink again we'll be celebrating the new year.

Anyway...despite the fast approach of cold weather, I have some hot new releases to share with you for this month's segment.

The books I feature are from authors who were not afraid to be soulful, sappy, and/or suggestive when it came to their heroes. So, grab a seat, and pick up a pen and paper (or fire up your eReaders) so you can add these to your TBR collection.

Happy reading!

Duncan pressed his lips lightly to her forehead, and the soft sound of her sigh was like an answer to every prayer he’d made for the last seven years. Time held still as he leaned down closer and closer to her mouth.

Kissing her would be a mistake. It would only make him miss her worse afterward.

His heart clenched as his lips touched hers. They were as sweet as in his memories. Since she was sad and wanted his comfort, he made himself keep the kiss soft. But his heart was bleeding for her, as it always had. He would let her cut it to shreds again.

When he broke the kiss, he stared into her violet eyes and wondered what she was thinking. Probably that Duncan MacDonald was the most foolish of the many fools who had loved her.

But then she slid her hands up his chest, clasped them around his neck, and pulled him down into another kiss. Her mouth softened against his, and he died a little more inside.

For a long time, he was lost in a mindless, never-ending kiss. But when she groaned into his mouth and pressed her breasts against his chest, lust too-long denied surged through him like a roaring river. And that river of desire swept away all the barriers he had built through all the years away from her.

To have this woman, he would die a thousand deaths, face any enemy, fight the very devil himself. He could never have enough of her.

Duncan drank in her sighs and whimpers as he kissed her mouth, her arched black eyebrow, her perfect nose, her determined chin. Very, very softly, he brushed his lips over her injured jaw.

“Moira,” he said her name over and over. He ran his tongue over her, tasting her skin, as he moved down the side of her throat. Then he leaned her back onto the floor and buried his face between her breasts.

Please, God, let me have her again just this once. He had waited so long and missed her so much. Even as he pleaded with God for one more time, he knew once would never be enough.

Moira should be his. She should belong to him, now and forever.

“I’m not going to be jealous of a dead guy, Cam,” Brad said in a low, husky voice. “I mean, I was for a little while, but I’m over it now.”

She turned to face him, wide-eyed with wonder. “You are?”

“I am.” He took her hand and brought it to his lips. “The people who touch us make us who we are, right? Our parents, our friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, lovers, or one night stands—all of them count.” Turning her hand over, he pressed his lips to the center of her palm then let his hot, moist breath wash over her skin. “I’m not saying I’m about to rush over there and thank him.”

A laugh burbled from her lips. “No, I understand.”

“But you loved him, and because you loved him you were able to fall in love with me.”

Her smile widened as she tried to dissect his convoluted reasoning. “I love the way your ego always lets you circle everything back around to you.”

Brad shrugged. “Whatever works.”

“It so works. Totally works for me.”

"My lord, you are like a stud, ready so quickly."

"You make me a stallion, Joan. By God, you are my one and only treasure."

Daniel’s hands raked through his hair and he bent forward to catch his breath. His fright evaporated at the sound of Marienne’s contagious giggles. Within seconds he was laughing.

“What the hell are you doing out here?” He moved toward her. She looked lovely, backlit by the glow that emanated from the house, hair loose around her shoulders, pale skin luminous in the moonlight, shoulders quivering as she tried to contain her laughter. He felt a strong impulse to kiss her, which took him totally off guard. The neighbor’s dog barked, startling them both, and stopping him from striding toward her, taking her in his arms and making what he thought would be the hugest of all possible mistakes.

“I was just having some water.” Marienne pointed to the glass on the stone ledge.

He looked at her, one eyebrow raised.

She sighed. “And I was waiting to see if you’d walk back through my yard.”

“Back through?”

“I was at the sink. I saw you walk by earlier.”

“You waited up for me?”

“Well, I was cleaning the kitchen and waiting for the dishwasher to finish.” She was a terrible liar. “Yes, I waited up. You looked upset. I wanted to make sure you were all right.” Her dark, round eyes met his.

He stepped toward her. “That was totally unnecessary. And it’s absolutely the nicest thing I can remember anyone doing for me in a very long time.” He hugged her, tentatively, gauging her response.

She lifted herself onto her toes, her small hands pressed into his back, and he relaxed in her arms. He breathed in the aroma of her hair, laced as always with her familiar scent. Eyes closed he allowed her warmth to pass through him. The desire to kiss her remained strong, all the more so now that she was pressed against him, but the need to hug her, and be hugged by her, took precedence. He held her tighter and placed a gentle kiss on the side of her head before he pulled away.
